Hate me so you can finally see what's good for you.

"Hate me in ways
Yeah ways hard to swallow
Hate me so you can finally see what’s good for you."

This song may specifically be about addiction, but this is what it means to me. To me, when I hear this song, I think about myself. I think about the times when I feel like I am doing no good to the people in my life. I make mistake after mistake and end up hurting the people I love. I reach the point when I believe that those people can do so much better without me in their lives. This conclusion comes from caring too much and not being happy with oneself. I understand that this is not positive thinking. Whether you are in this place, or know someone who is, reach out to them. The people in this place need someone willing to push through the anger and help them stand.

These lyrics are from "Hate Me" by Blue October.

Free to stand beside the ocean in moonlight.

"Free to stand beside the ocean in moonlight
And light myself a smoke beneath the dark Atlantic sky."

I do realize that I have done Yellowcard lyrics before, but these lines have stuck with me. They are from the song "Back Home" by Yellowcard. Yes, they are from their Ocean Avenue album, but I encourage you to listen to the acoustic version of this song.

No, I do not smoke, but the image that these words illustrates in my mind makes sense. I see a person standing on the beach, thinking. This person is feeling completely alone. Whether they no longer have someone in their life or they just do not feel like they belong in the world, they have no one. I specifically think of myself when I listen to this song. I think of all of the times when I have felt entirely alone. I think of when no one can truly understand what I am going through, and I feel so incredibly detached from the world.

"Another sunny day beneath this cloudless sky
Sometimes I wish it would rain here."

Peace and Love. Leah.

We'll go home and start again.

"When we're old and near the end.
We'll go home and start again."

These lines are from the song "Come to Me" by the Goo Goo Dolls. I cannot even begin to explain how much I love this song. It just is one of those song that makes you feel good. I think these lines in particular make me think of a couple who has went on adventures together. It illustrates the simple idea of growing old with someone. I have interpreted these lines two different ways. The first being more literal, a couple grows old and returns to the town in which they met or grew up. The second being death and the idea of starting again. I like the idea of the latter more. If you have not heard this song, give it a listen.

P.S.- I apologize for not having posted in a while. Life happened.

You're scared that you're turning into your mother.

"You tell me that you're scared that you're turning into your mother.
I feel myself turn into my father.
We could lie to each other like they do, and say we're so happy.
It's easy when you're young and you still want it so badly."

I feel that we all try to not become our parents. For me, I am so resistant of the thought that this will happen someday. These lines make me think of that. These lines are from "All I Ever Wanted" by The Airborne Toxic Event. I think that the idea that someone you care for is changing is a scary thought. If something is not working out, you have two options. You can try harder or give up. You have to make the decision.

Take me to the river.

"I was wrong again
Take me to the river
And make me clean again."

I believe that I had the song "The River" by Manchester Orchestra on repeat for about two weeks when I first discovered it. This song is about someone facing struggles and making mistakes. They simply want grace from God, and they feel that God will not save them because they keep making mistakes. The religious connection with this song makes me feel comforted by it. I think we as humans have such a high standard set in place for us, and sometimes when we do fail, we feel that it is incredibly difficult to forgive ourselves. It is sometimes inconceivable that God would be willing to give us grace. I think about how it would be difficult for me to keep forgiving someone of their mistakes, but then again, God will always be there for you. Keep marching on.

Peace and Love. Leah.

While I slowly untie my tongue.

"Please wait while I slowly untie my tongue tonight
I pray by some feeble attempt my words would tell you what my heart has to say."

The opening lines of "Changed By You" by Between The Trees so simply explain my exact thoughts most of the time. I have such a difficult time with connecting words together to form a coherent sentence that can do my feelings justice. Whether I end up spewing too many words from my mouth and telling a long, drawn out story, I feel that this song explains it perfectly. Whether you are trying to tell someone how much they mean to you, or simply explaining how you feel about something, I think this song hits home. I think of the times when I was at a loss for words when asked to explain my feelings. How can someone eloquently put how they feel? Listen and enjoy.

I'd follow you in.

"Until now, I knew this of myself
That if you had thrown yourself down
Into the lion's den
My brother I'd follow you in."

We all have felt betrayal at some point in our lives. I think back to the times that I would have done anything for someone and he/she hurt me instead. I have learned that girls can be especially cruel. You live and learn.

I felt wrong neglecting the song "Iscariot" by Walk The Moon when I posted about Walk The Moon. Considering that this song is not like any of the other songs on their album, I felt it was worth mentioning. The strong biblical references in this song are undoubtedly about betrayal. Give the song a listen.

Peace and Love. Leah.

Stay shotgun until the day I die.

"Won't you stay shotgun until the day I die?
Stay shotgun until the day I die."

Like most songs on Walk The Moon's self-titled album, this song is about the connection between two people. The song "Next In Line" to me is about the feeling of being together. We all know that riding "shotgun" is the prized seat in most cars. I think that there is something to be said about the feeling of driving around in the car with someone, especially in the summertime. Driving around with the windows down is one of my favorite summertime memories. I love that sense of freedom and moving forward.

I have a weak spot for Walk The Moon. Their music makes me feel light and powerful. It picks me up when I am having a bad day. My boyfriend and I will send the link to the song "I Can Lift A Car" to one another when we know the other is having a bad day.

I saw Walk The Moon at LouFest, and I will be seeing them perform two more times this year. Next to The Killers, they put on the second best performance at LouFest. I have seen a lot of concerts, but they definitely were one of my favorites. They engaged with the audience, which I really enjoyed. This photo is of Walk The Moon and was taken by a friend of mine at LouFest

All out of fight.

"Out of time
All out of fight
You are the only thing in life that I got right."

If you listen to the acoustic version of "Sing For Me" by Yellowcard and hear these lyrics, you will understand exactly why I am writing about them. I get chills every time I hear these lines. I think that regardless of who it is, sometimes it feels as if one person is holding us together. Whether you are going through hard times or not, this one person is always there. Relationships hold us together. They are the glue that connect us all.

I figured that I would clarify that the title of this blog is after this song.

And before you jump to conclusions about Yellowcard, I encourage you to throw away all negative thoughts you have about the band. I feel that a lot of people only think of their song "Ocean Avenue" when they think of Yellowcard. I got to see them in January, and I was not disappointed by the show. Check out their When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, Southern Air, and Ocean Avenue Acoustic albums.

Dances across the porch.

"The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me."

Bruce Springsteen has been a constant in my life growing up. I have been to three Bruce Springsteen concerts. I love his poetic lyrics. I remember sending one of my friends lyrics from one of his songs, and I told him how beautiful the song was. And he told me that he didn't understand it. And here I am, thinking, well, you need to think about it. Think about what he is saying. I think that a lot of the music nowadays has gotten away from symbolic lyrics. The song "Thunder Road" is a classic. I went back and forth between which Bruce song to choose for today. With this song comes great memories of dancing around my house with my family. The meaning of this song is one that has been interpreted throughout the years. The song speaks of a girl who is leaving her comfort zone. She is breaking free. To me, this song refers to growing up. She is finally taking steps into adulthood. This song is relatable to everyone. We all have to face the facts of growing up. It may be scary. But we all have to do it.

Kiss your cheek and goodnight.

"Some love was made for the lights
Some kiss your cheek and goodnight."

We all know the people who think that love is being with someone publicly. They want all of the stereotypical things out of their relationship. These two lines from "Slow it Down" by The Lumineers may not be my favorite lines from the song, but they definitely make the most sense to me. Love is meant only for the two people who are in the relationship. It is not meant to be under scrutiny of anyone else. I think these lines are so true for any relationship. In my case, my boyfriend and I went as far to never put our relationship status on Facebook. My boyfriend and I have been best friend for years, so I guess it was inevitable that we would end up together. So no, we are not "Facebook Official", but why do we have to be? We are happy together, and I think that it really is no one else's business. Him and I have been together for over a year now. So when I first heard this song by The Lumineers, I just sat there and listened. These lyrics hit home. Some of us want love that is "made for the lights" and some of us are beyond happy with that kiss on our cheek.

I saw The Lumineers in concert this past year. I took this picture. They put on a great show. I cannot wait for them to put out a new album. Check them out.

Just a subtle little glimmer.

"If you could just give me a sign, just a subtle little glimmer.
Some suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better. Then I would stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller, all the time.Because I know you are a cynic but I think I can convince you.Yeah, cause broken people can get better if they really want to.Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I am hoping to survive!"

This entire stanza of the song "Recovery" by Frank Turner makes me think of the struggles in life, but with a positive spin. I think that anyone who has experienced a break-up can relate to this song. Maybe they do not even acknowledge your presence. The fact that the person you used to count on is no longer in your life, and that you have to work to get over it. I love how fast paced this song and a lot of Frank Turner's songs are. They lift me up when I am feeling down, even when the lyrics are brutally honest (check out his song "Plain Sailing Weather"). His accent adds to his songs, too. Enjoy.

Like sinking ships.

"And the decades disappear
Like sinking ships but we persevere
God gives us hope but we still fear what we don't know."

The Killers have been one of my favorite bands for as long as I can remember. This line is from the song "A Dustland Fairytale" by The Killers. These lines stuck with me throughout the years. I think that we can all relate to how time so easily vanishes. The fear of the unknown is what I struggle with. What will happen in the future? What am I working so hard for? In a blink of an eye, our time here can be up. Accept what God has in store for you.

I was lucky enough to be front row for The Killers at LouFest this past year. It was an experience that I will always remember. This picture was taken by me at LouFest.

Beat of the music.

"Smiling that smile and reaching out your hand."

The song "Beat Of The Music" by Brett Eldredge makes me want to dance. Smiles. They are contagious. When I heard this song for the first time, I was taken back to a summer night. I think about how there are nerves over that guy or girl that you like. When everything is new and exciting. I specifically think about the courage that it takes to "reach out your hand". Take risks and live life to the fullest.

Peace and Love. Leah.

Carry your will.

"Let your faith guide your faith."

I think that it goes without saying that this line stuck with me because it is true. Your faith, whatever it may be in, should be what leads you through life. You should be able to surrender whatever worries you have and put it all in your faith. You should be able to fall back on whatever you believe in.

This lyric is repeated in the song "Carry Your Will" by The Mowgli's. Check out the song. You won't be disappointed.

Peace and Love. Leah.

There's a song for that.

Having a good day? Bad day? Going through heartache? A break-up? Falling for someone? Living life? There's a song for that. And I am here to post those lyrics that run through my head all day long. That one line or entire song. And if I can connect to one person. Make one person understand what makes music so powerful. That is enough.

Peace and Love. Leah.
